The purpose of this post is to answer the question are prefab home safe. The biggest factor in my opinion in determining if prefab homes are safe is the country of origin. However, this is not the only factor of course.
My general answer to the question are prefabricated house safe to life in is, yes. I really believe in the cost and time savings of prefabricated homes. I also think most companies in the US that produce these and have produced these home, have a good reputation or they would not be in business.
However, it is not only the production of the house, but also putting it together and the material you use that is a factor. Lets first look at the country of origin.
Are Chinese prefab homes safe
I personally would not buy a prefab home from China. I would buy the prefab home from Canada. Now and you can not only generalize about the safety of building materials based on the country of origin however I think this is a starting point.
I make the assumption no Prefab homes are not safe
Do not assume the material you use in building your home is safe. In fact, I would assume the opposite. Perhaps the wood itself is safe. However, what do they use to treat the wood with? What do they use to glue the wood with? What is used in the installation of your home? make a checklist of all the material that you use in your house. Then do the research as to the potential hazards. I don’t want to sound paranoid, however, you going to be living in this house every day, and don’t assume somebody else is looking out for your best interest.
The biggest safety issues are always the things you can not see. It could be a fire or vapor hazard. It could be something that would leak into your well that you drink from. Create a list of potential safety issues with your prefab home. Do not wait twenty years to find out something causes cancer.
The environmental protection agency does have regulations, however, they are not checking everything nor regulating everything. I think it alternately comes down to who’ve your builder to use and which company you’re buying from. It must ask the questions about the material, and don’t take their answers at face value.
Are prefab homes safe? Reject the standard answer
The standard answer will be all yes it is safe. Any home, prefabricated or hand build could be safe or unsafe. However I have been given this answer many times, and that was not true. Therefore, of the purpose of this post is not to its insert the question directly are prefab home safe, rather, for you to be aware that there are hazards with prefab homes, and it is your responsibility to ask the questions and do the research.
If you think this is a cop out it isn’t. Because there is no way, by can tell you exactly what is in your home because beach home is different. I do not represent any business or building company. In fact I am a prospective home buyer just like you, the only difference is by half the time to do the research.
Let me know your thought about the safety of prefabricated homes.
