Who were the greatest US presidents
Character is destiny and the hallmark of greatness. Often great people never rise to positions of importance or even noted. Other men are notorious but not great. I have always wondered why, the USA, a country of such great people, often choose Presidents that are less than great. I think this has a lot to do with the primary system.
The Greatest US Presidents were
- George Washington – Won the revolution, established the United States.
- Thomas Jefferson – Represented the ideals of the enlightenment, with small government and non-imperialist foreign policy.
- Abraham Lincoln – Saved the Union, freed the Slaves. Man of Honor.
- Theodore Roosevelt – Preserved the national parks. Was a visionary with the environment. Future generations of Americans are indebted to him.
- Eisenhower – Made the road system great. The US economy is based on the Eisenhower road system.
- Ronald Reagan – Ended the cold war.Saved the US economy. Restored national pride. Good character.
Honorary mention goes to Woodrow Wilson – He was a visionary. He help create the league of Nations a precursor to the UN. He also created the a lot of financial reform.
Who was not a great President but many consider great
John F. Kennedy – Nice looking man, media darling, almost started WW III. Had girlfriends. Talking about greatness of this country does not make a person a good leader. I would say Kennedy was good, but should not go on the currency.
Franklin D. Roosevelt – Expanded big government. Gave people hope. Gave Russians Eastern Europe. Good character.
Some people think Andrew Jackson was a good US President. I think he was good, but that is it he was a little too waring for my blood. And other people think Carter was bad. Well the truth is he was an honest man when the country needed honesty after Nixon. It restored respect for the office of the US Presidency.
What makes a person great is not connected with media popularity. Remember this is the same media that throws down laurel leaves at the feet of many famous actors and actress whose lives are a mess and bring ruin to those close to them. Often times if you ask the question “Who were the greatest Presidents in US history, you will find large variations in answers depending on the current economic situation. An example of this is in a recent Sienna poll FDR is number one and Obama is number 15, higher than Reagan or John Adams.
It is very difficult to decide which President deserves honor unless he lived at least 100 years ago. Time clarifies things as people are not emotionally involved with it. If you think there should be others added to or subtracted from
this list please let me know.
I wrote an article on what makes a bad President.
What do you think of Obama? Bush? Clinton? Is he and are they great US Presidents? Who will be running in the 2012 US Presidential election and do any of these men have the potential to be consider by history as great? When you vote consider this question.
