I guess all Political discourse has a touch of cynicism to it. However, in this great land of the USA, with so many talented and creative people, is the best we really can do is Barack Obama and Newt Gingrich? I am a little depressed about this. I think I will go back to surfing, playing chess and writing about investing and trading stocks. I mean the US Presidential election in 2012 is so important for our future, but we have two leaders who are basically a choice between someone who does not understand economics 101 and a heartless war monger.
You could read my post on the 2012 election issues and about the Presidential election in general, but this post is more cut to the chase and non nonesense.
What is Wrong with Barack Obama?
- He is Mr. Wall Street. He took large sums of money for campaign donations like from Goldman Sachs for example. Then when the crisis hit he used taxpayer money to help Wall Street. He is a hypocrite as he campaigned on helping the middle class. Obama needs to middle class by giving us more opportunities for us to help ourselves, by letting the markets work. Stop the culture of blame, that you perpetuate. I wrote a lot about it here: Who will win the 2012 election? and 101 reasons why Obama will not be reelected.
- Although Obama had no problem accepting the Nobel peace prize with a smile, he took the Bush-Obama doctrine of Empire building with undeclared wars to a new level. He is no different from Bush with Middle Eastern foreign policy.
- Not pro-life. I know we are all hip and cool in America and anything goes, but I can not image in a civilized nation like this we still do not protect the innocent.
- The debt exploded. Did he really have to do this to prove Keynesian economics wrong?
- Nothing special – lack of creativity.
What is good about Obama?
- Although I am a Libertarian and prefer small government, if we are going to blow cash, it might as well be on a domestic programs where the money is recycled and more or less redistributed. Many slow growth European countries do this. This is better than just firing rockets in the desert. Guns or butter which is better?
What is bad about Newt Gingrich?
- I do not like him. I think it has something to do with he is on his third or fourth wife and left his last one when she had cancer. For me that is heartless. He has spent 35 years in Washington taking millions as a ‘consultant’ which is really nothing than an insider lobbyist. I find a number of small things like this insincere about him.
- Newt Gingrich war monger Uber war monger. Endless wars and destruction.
- Is not for smaller government but for the decrease in the rate of increase. Does not cut the baseline. We need a balanced budget amendment and a decrease in the baseline.
What is good about Newt Gingrich
- Fiscally conservative by a small degree.
- Protects life. Many people are one issue voters and this is a big one.
Who to vote for in the 2012 election when we have a choice between a donkey and an elephant? I used to vote under the idea that you do not want to waste your voice and vote for an unelectable third-party candidate. But you know what, screw it. If you look at the above no-nonsense analysis is it really a wasted vote?
I am seriously thinking of voting for neither major party and voting for a candidate who I actually believe in rather than who everyone else is voting for. Anyone else have any ideas?

Ron Paul Planet honorable
Mark.
You are correct about Obama.
He is a total failure morally and in is administration.
He sold change and offered even more of the same.
He is a Bait-and-switch President.
Gingrich avoided the Vietnam War but is ready to send young men to war. If he had refused to go to war for valid reason and would be pro-peace I could live with this but it’s not the case. He is nothing but a “chicken hawk” with disingenuous rhetorical abilities.
As you also mentioned he made a lot of money peddling influence in DC and despite criticizing Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae publicly we now find that he was paid big time by Freddie Mack. His character makes him unfit to be President.
Ron Paul however is from a different planet. “Planet Honorable”.
He is fear by the Neoconservative and the left since they both love big Government. He his a disturbing candidate to the establishment and it’s obvious by the ridiculous negative coverage he gets.
He is being purposely marginalized. First as non-important candidate and now that he his wining they say he is disturbing the process and he has no chance of winning the general election.
So much for democracy.
The media’s are actually going against their own viewers like in a Banana Republics. The major media’s are discrediting them self on a daily basis. All there phony prediction where wrong and they continue with no intellectual argumentation to marginalize Ron Paul. Its one thing not to agree with is policies but to pretend he is not an important factor is plain dishonest.
This may backlash and could be costly for traditional Media’s credibility.
I think that change is often suppress and always takes time but when it finally happens it’s like lightning its unstoppable.
Ron Paul has planted a new Liberty seed in Americas young and it’s not going away. To me this is very positive and let’s not forgets that Paul has a son that will also carry this message for a long long time.
Obama betrayed the liberals with promises so even Matt Damon et al. and some of my most liberal friends do not like him. Perhaps he has good intentions but needs really to learn something about Economics before he can lead.
Yet Gingrich is no conservative in my understanding of the word and has questionable ethics.
In fact I do not even think they are questionable, they are just situational ethics based on his quest for power and pleasure.
What Ron Paul has such a clear understanding of economics and the way the world works. He goes fowarad with the courage of his convictions.
The media paints him as extreme. When did defending liberty and the constitution, become extreme? 1776 in the eyes of King George.
Win lose or draw his message is building momentum.
